Ivan Markovic was born in Belgrade in 1983. Having graduated from the “Stankovic” Music School (Belgrade), he entered the department of conducting of the Faculty of Music Arts at the Belgrade University.

He had his first experience as a conductor in the “Brothers Baruch” Choir. When a third-year student, he started collaborating with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Borislav Pascan”. Two years later, he founded a chamber orchestra, so far known as the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra “Orpheus”. Ivan Markovic has been the artistic director and conductor of the orchestra since its inception.

He mastered his skills at courses and workshops given by Mats Nilsson (Sweden), Vladimir Kiradjiev (Bulgaria-Austria), Andreas Hermann (Germany), Ahim Holub (Austria).

Ivan Markovic conducted a mixed choir and the Symphony OrchestraofRadio Television of Serbia, the chamber orchestra “The Czech Virtuosos”, the Symphony Orchestra of the Faculty of Music Arts of the Belgrade University, the instrumental ensemble “Secondhanders”, the string orchestra “Saint George” and others.

He was on tours in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Austria.

In March 2013, the orchestra conducted by Ivan Markovic presented the program “Modern Serbian Composers” in the cultural centre of Belgrade. Ivan Markovic also conducted the string orchestra “Saint George” in the Belgrade Philharmonic Society.

In April 2013, he conducted the vocal-instrumental ensemble “Mir” in the Belgrade House of Youth, which performed a suite to the opera “Zvezdani Grad–Circle of Yuri”. The concert was attended by the librettist (in Russian), the spaceman Yuri Baturin.

In June 2013, Ivan Markovic and the Chamber Orchestra “Orpheus” performed in the concert marking the Day of Russia in the “Russian House” in Belgrade.

In September 2013, he gave a seminar on conducting on the days of XXII Ecclesiastical Academy, held in the Orthodox monastery in Studenica (Serbia).

Ivan Markovic is working as an assistant conductor at the department of conducting of the Faculty of Music Arts of the Belgrade University. Currently, he’s reading for a doctorate.
