Alexander Morozov was born in the village of Ocniţa (Moldova) on 20 March 1948.

When a child, he learnt to play the Russian harmonica and the button accordion.

In the 1960s, he graduated from the Leningrad College of Physical Culture and Sports. When at college, he headed a vocal and instrumental ensemble.

In 1968, Alexander entered the physical education faculty at the State Leningrad Herzen Pedagogical Institute (now the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia). He was an active participant of student amateur activities.

After the graduation, he served in the army, composed music for the “Wave” ensemble of sailors.

In 1975, he entered the Leningrad Conservatory (now the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory), but failed to get a degree because of the tight touring schedule.

His popularity came in 1968 with his first pop composition “Herbs smell of mint” to the poem by Sergei Iliasov. Performed by the Bulgarian singer Boris Gudjunov, it was presented in the television contest “The Song of the Year” and made Morozov a prizewinner. Then followed the hits “Nobody Invites to Dance” performed by Irina Ponarovskaya and “Pebbles” performed by Valentina Tolkunova.

Alexander teamed up for songwriting with many talented poets including Anatoly Poperechny, Mikhail Andreev, Leonid Derbenev, Sergei Romanov, Gleb Gorbovsky, Yuri Parkaev, Evgeny Muraviov. He collaborated with the ensembles “Hello, Song”, “Jolly Fellows”, “Ariel”.

In 1983, he was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize.

In 1984, Morozov became the artistic director of the pop group “Forum”. His songs were performed by Victor Saltykov and Sergey Rogozhin.

In the 1990s, after the collapse of the USSR, he lived in Cyprus.

His return to Russia in 1999 was encouraged by the success of the anniversary concert in the State Central Concert Hall “Russia”, featuring Eduard Khil, Lev Leshchenko, Larisa Dolina, Joseph Kobzon, Valery Leontiev, Alla Pugacheva and many other stars.  

In 2002, he began his solo career as a performer of his own songs.

In 2003, Alexander Morozov Theatre of Song “Nugget” was founded, which hosted performances by Nikolai Baskov, Pelageya, Marina Kapura, soloists of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatres.

In 2005, he created a series of compositions to the poems by Nikolai Rubtsov “It's light in my room”, and was awarded the Nikolai Rubtsov State Literary Prize “Star of fields”.

In 2006, Morozov composed the anthem of Sochi “Sochi, the capital of sports!”

In 2010, in collaboration with the producer Marina Parusnikova, he organized the International Festival of Opera Art “Music Open Pafos” (Cyprus).

Alexander Morozov has composed more than 1500 songs and given more than 500 solo concerts. He has released about 20 albums, including “Regret nothing”(1999),”The Soul Hurts”(2002), “ My Moscow” (2003), “The Land of Nizhny Novgorod” (2003), “My Father’s Waltz” (2005), “Life is Good for Moments "(2007),” Crimson Ring” (2009), “Applause. Applause...“ (2010),”The Day Before” (2011), “Bryansk Land” (2012), “On the Road of Life” (2013), “Golden Hits” (2014), “The Best for the Best” (2015) and others.

He is a multiple winner of TV festivals “The Song of the Year” (Russia) and “The Hit of the Year” (Ukraine).

On 23 April 2004, the State Central Concert Hall “Russia” hosted the opening of the Star of Alexander Morozov.

The composer is a holder of the Order of St. Nicholas (2001), the Order of “Peter the Great" (2004, 2006), and an honorary diploma “For contribution to national culture” (2012).

In 2018, Alexander Morozov is giving concerts on occasion of his 70th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of his creative life. The first concert took place on his birthday in the Grand Concert Hall “Oktyabrskiy” (St. Petersburg), the second was in the Great Hall of the Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

As a president of the Cultural Fund “Nugget”, he helps to promote talented youth from provinces.

He has participated in the International Festival of Arts “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk” many times.

In 2018, Alexander Morozov's anniversary evening “It’s light in my room” is to be held on stage of the Summer Amphitheatre (July 14, at 6.00 p.m.).
